The story of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities in Wales is a fascinating one that is rooted in foreign lands, during earlier times

We were commissioned to produce an exhibition and an accompanying  book focusing  on the Gypsy and Traveller communities in Wales – their recorded stories and photographs taken by the travellers themselves and by professional photographer Felix Page. For the walk-in exhibition we devised a pod system housing four different sections configured in a cross-like structure, allowing the viewer to engage in and discover the areas individually.

Each section consisted of a mix of images, video footage, story telling, sound files and the opportunity to leave comments and a history timeline.

A bold, confident colour palette was used as testament to the vibrancy and continuing vitality of the communities that make up the complex ethnic and cultural mosaic of modern Wales, and as a homage to the colourful Gypsy wagons or Vardos.
