Cardiff Metropolitan University celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2015. We were asked to refine and update the existing logo following the re-naming of the University formerly UWIC. Our redevelopment of the institutions logo was three-fold.

The first undertaking was to overhaul the existing typography, which involved research, adjusting font weights, simplifying and re-shaping the type.

The second phase involved a re-drawing of the historical shield. Distillation of the mark included simplifying decorative elements, replacing any drop shadows with flat colour and replacing shadowed detail with a simple pattern where necessary.

The third stage of the updating was to form a cohesion of the shield and the typography to create a harmonious brand solution  re-engaging with the shield and emulating the longevity and history of the university.
